The Grand Canal of Venice
The Grand Canal snakes through Venice like a wide, inverted “S”, nearly four kilometres long, linking the lagoon to the heart of civic and mercantile life. Bordered by more than 170 buildings, each one built to be seen from the water, Romanesque façades gave way to Venetian-Byzantine, then Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque.
Italian Alleys
Often paved with basalt, limestone, or river-worn cobbles, Italy’s alleys were laid in the Middle Ages where space was precious. They were built narrow to offer shade in summer, shelter in winter, and a kind of intimacy that broader streets cannot hold. The paving stones were worn smooth by centuries of footsteps, glistening after rain and glowing gold at dusk.

Limoncello
This liqueur was born on the sun-kissed shores of the southern Italian regions at the turn of the 20th century. The lemons (Citrus x limon) themselves have grown on steep terraces since at least the 15th century, spreading through the area for their effectiveness in the fight against scurvy, a vitamin C deficiency disease.
