Chingay: Road to UNESCO

Chingay is a street parade that showcases the multiculturalism, traditions and artistic expressions of communities in both Singapore and Malaysia. In recognition of its cultural significance, both countries have jointly submitted a nomination for Chingay for inclusion on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of Humanity.

This nomination marks a significant milestone in preserving and promoting Chingay as a living heritage. Beyond international recognition, this milestone is expected to energise interest among younger practitioners, ensuring that Chingay continues to thrive as a vital part of Singapore's cultural landscape for generations to come.

To bring this rich heritage to life, step into the colourful world of Chingay Parade at the giant Chingay storybook pop-up exhibition, brought to you by the People's Association. Through an engaging and interactive experience, visitors can explore the origins and traditions of Singapore's iconic Chingay Parade whilst discovering the stories of creativity, community and multicultural celebration that have shaped it. Suitable for all ages, the exhibition is presented in English.
