Why are some part of the outdoor gardens (e.g. The Meadow, Bayfront Plaza, Serene Garden, World of Plants, Dragonfly Lake) cordoned off?

These areas are cordoned off for Dale Chihuly: Glass in Bloom, an art exhibition featuring glass sculptures by the world-renowned American artist Dale Chihuly. The event will start on 23 April in the two conservatories, followed by 1 May for the complete experience including the outdoor gardens. An admission ticket will be required to access the exhibition area.

Why is entry to these areas charged? Isn’t the outdoor gardens a public area with free access?

Across the globe, Chihuly’s installations have been exhibited in public gardens such as London’s Royal Botanical Gardens Kew and New York Botanical Garden. Gardens by the Bay is carrying on this tradition, and is the first garden in Asia to do so.

As a national garden, we are pleased to be able to host Dale Chihuly’s first major garden exhibition in Asia, Dale Chihuly: Glass in Bloom for people in Singapore to experience the stunning works of Chihuly for themselves right here at home.

Art has a way of soothing the mind and spirit, and we hope the stunning beauty of glass amidst greenery can go some way to provide respite for one and all during this challenging period.

This special event is the first time world-renowned American glass artist Dale Chihuly is bringing his sculptures to Singapore in a garden exhibition and will be ticketed. Access to Serene Garden, The Meadow and World of Plants will be restricted to ticket holders only. Visitors may refer to https://www.chihulyinbloom.com/ for locations of the art sculptures.

Can I still watch Garden Rhapsody for free during this period?

Yes, you can. Garden Rhapsody will take place as usual at 7.45pm and 8.45pm daily, at the Supertree Grove which is not part of the ticketed area.

Which part of the gardens can I access for free during the event period?

Only Serene Garden, The Meadow and World of Plants will be gated for the exhibition. You can still navigate around the Gardens easily by making a slight detour along the Boardwalk of Dragonfly Lake. There are also sculptures at the SG50 Lattice, Dragonfly Lake and Victoria Lily Pond available for the public to enjoy for free.

Visitors are welcome to enjoy other parts of the gardens around Kingfisher Lake and Water Lily Pond, as well as the areas around Supertree Observatory. Cyclists can still cycle along the Waterfront Promenade as usual.

Why are there 2 start dates?

The exhibition opens first in Flower Dome and Cloud Forest on 23 Apr for visitors and Friends of the Gardens to enjoy our cooled conservatories, followed by the complete experience which includes the Outdoor Gardens & Gallery from 1 May.

What is the floral display happening in Flower Dome during this period?

The Flower Field in Flower Dome will feature blooms that complement the glass sculptures.

What is the estimated duration to complete the exhibition based on each location?

The Complete Experience will take about 3 hours on foot. Please wear comfortable shoes, and ensure you are well hydrated. Do bring along an umbrella if you are coming in the day, as the outdoor exhibits are not sheltered.

Is the entire exhibition area wheelchair accessible?

There are ramps to almost every portion inside Flower Dome, and the walkways inside Cloud Forest, Outdoor gardens and Bayfront gallery are all wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair rental is available at $2 per day at the Arrival Gift Shop near the main entrance taxi stand. Wheelchairs must be returned by 8.00pm. Kindly approach our friendly staff on ground if you require any assistance.

Are food and drinks allowed in the gated exhibition area?

No consumption of food and drinks is allowed inside Flower Dome, Cloud Forest and Bayfront Pavilion. However, you are allowed to consume food and drinks in the outdoor gardens.

What happens if it rains?

The Exhibition is considered a rain or shine attraction. No refunds or exchanges will be given due to inclement weather. However, if you purchased the tickets through the Gardens’ ticketing site, you may reschedule your tickets at least 48 hours before your scheduled visit, subject to availability.

What are the safe management measures taken for this event?

All visitors are required to adhere to prevailing health and safety precautions and observe safe distancing at all times. Visitors are required to check-in to the attractions via SafeEntry by scanning the SafeEntry QR code using their smartphones.

Who can I approach onsite for more information?

Are there any concessions for persons with disabilities?

We regret that there are no further concessions available.

Is re-entry allowed? Can I leave the outdoor gardens and re-enter with the same ticket?

Re-entry to each exhibition area on the same day is strictly not allowed. The organisers strongly encourage visitors to plan your visit for a better experience and to avoid disappointment.

Can I spread my visit over 2 days? I’m afraid I can’t finish viewing all the sculptures in one day.

Re-entry to the exhibition is not allowed. Each ticket is only valid for one-time entry per day. Nonetheless, you may like to purchase a weekday Season Pass for multiple visits to the Outdoor Gardens and Gallery to enjoy the installations.

Is there a time period I am allowed to stay inside each exhibition area?

Visitors are free to enjoy the sculptures at their leisure.

Is the Outdoor Gardens and Gallery portion included in the Friends of the Gardens (FOG) membership?

This event is not included in the FOG membership package, which is a highly value-for-money package that includes privileges such as unlimited access to Flower Dome, Cloud Forest and OCBC Skyway all year round except on maintenance dates, complimentary 2-hourly parking, exclusive discounts at our retail and F&B outlets and more, at attractive rates. We seek the kind understanding of our FOG members on this matter.

Nonetheless, FOG members can enjoy 10% off tickets purchased through the mobile app.
