9.00am - 9.00pm
The sights and stories of Portugal make port at Gardens by the Bay for its first Portuguese-themed floral display, Sunflower Surprise: Garden by the Ocean in Flower Dome. Shaped by centuries of seafaring and known for its sun-soaked coastal towns, the display captures the country's character through its maritime history, everyday traditions and agricultural heritage.
Journey through Alfama, one of Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhoods, before exploring Portugal’s coastal heritage through the striped houses of fishing town Costa Nova, a 6m-tall Farol de Belém lighthouse, and the bow of a traditional Portuguese carrack.
Moving inland, the display highlights Portugal’s agricultural traditions through vineyards, olive groves, and cork oaks, alongside recreations of historic Porto shopfronts and Lisbon's iconic street kiosks.
Bringing the elements together are more than 5,000 sunflowers across 20 varieties, evoking the sunflower fields of the Portuguese countryside, including supersized varieties that can grow up to 1.8m tall.
Sunflower Surprise: Garden by the Ocean also commemorates 45 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Portugal, and is presented in partnership with the Embassy of Portugal in Singapore, with support from Turismo de Portugal and AICEP (Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency).

Flower Dome
Explore the 12m-long, multi-tiered recreation of the colourful hillside homes of Alfama, one of Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhoods, that anchors the floral display. Walk through the structure to discover Portuguese textiles, crafts, and azulejo-inspired details, and take in views of the sunflower field through its windows.
See traditional Lisbon kiosks and historic shopfronts that capture everyday city life, including a recreation of a late-19th-century refreshment kiosk and a Porto shop with its Art Nouveau façade and colourful tilework in Flower Dome.
Witness the 6m-tall recreation of the Belém Lighthouse and the bow of a traditional caravela, the sailing vessel closely associated with the country’s age of maritime exploration.
Towards the back of the Flower Field, the landscape shifts to the Portuguese countryside. Its climate and agricultural traditions have supported the production of wine, olive oil and cork for centuries, making them some of Portugal’s most recognised agricultural products today.
