Flower Dome
Make a wish upon the paper cranes hung from the ceiling of Flower Dome.
According to Japanese tradition, folding 1,000 paper cranes grants you wishes, happiness, eternal good luck, or even long life and recovery from illness or injury. Origami cranes (orizuru) folded into a group of 1,000 are known as a senbazuru, with “sen” meaning “thousand” in Japanese. The crane is an auspicious creature in Japanese folklore, and is said to live for 1,000 years.
A torii is a traditional Japanese gate, usually located at the entrance of Shinto shrines. It marks the transition from the profane to the sacred, though it is also sometimes simply used to denote a place that has deep religious meaning. It signals entrance into a hallowed space, and it is customary to bow one’s head before passing beneath it.
Walk through the torii gate at Flower Dome and enter a Japanese landscape filled with delicate blossoms of Sakura.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Rokuonji Temple, more widely known as Kinkakuji Temple, is a renowned Zen Buddhist temple in northern Kyoto. Named after the famed Golden Pavilion (Kinkakuji) which serves as a centerpiece of the temple grounds and one of the most famous and recognisable historic structures in Kyoto, the temple is considered a must-see destination by visitors to the verdant city.
Hanami, literally “flower viewing” at night is known as yozakura, or “night sakura”. Just as lovely at night as they are in the day, the cherry trees in many parks and gardens are lit up from sundown with the use of temporary paper lanterns or decorative electric lanterns, giving the delicate blossoms an ethereal glow. Witness the beauty of Flower Dome as it transforms with whimsical light projections, creating a dazzling display under the darkened sky.
Daily, from 7.00pm
Cherry Blossom
Signalling the onset of spring, cherry blossom season symbolises a time of renewal, bringing hope and new dreams at the beginning of the Japanese calendar year.
Most cherry blossom varieties bloom in spring, and only last for about one to two weeks. Changes in weather can affect both the time of flowering and the length of the blooming season.
Peach Blossom
Peach blossoms, commonly known as momo in Japan, belong to the same family as sakura.
The peach tree, Prunus persica, not only bears juicy fruits but also produces beautiful flowers with a pleasant fragrance in early to mid-spring that last for about two weeks.
