FAQs

General FAQs

How frequently is the SGF held?

The SGF is held once every two years. This is the 6th run of the SGF, and the second time to be held in the Gardens.

Why is the SGF held at GB again this year?

The 2014 edition at GB, with an indoor and outdoor element, was well-received by visitors and industry players. For designers, having SGF at GB presented challenges and opportunities to design a garden in the tropical context of Singapore while for visitors, they were able to enjoy the garden setting. In addition, being able to visit the cooled conservatories at SGF was a plus.

Following the experience in 2014, we have made several changes to enhance the experience for visitors, taking into consideration their feedback. These include a bigger showground to improve crowd flow, nightly concerts and F&B stalls located outside the ticketed area, so that more people can experience SGF 2016.

What are some of the difference between SGF this year and its previous editions?

Firstly, this year, the show is doubling in size and will span across 9.7ha with gardens and floral exhibits being displayed both indoors and outdoors at The Meadow and Bayfront Plaza. Visitors can expect a larger show (5ha in 2014).

This year, there will be 72 floral displays, including 59 competitive displays and 13 non-competitive displays – put together by NParks and GB staff, community gardens, gardening and floral associations. This is an increase from SGF 2014, where there were a total of 50 floral displays (including the competitive displays).

Some other new features include a special Terrarium exhibition and a competitive CUGE Landscape Design Challenge where students will be tested on their skills in designing a garden on-site, within a limited time.

Apart from new offerings, we have retained many of the popular highlights from the past five Festivals. These include the visually stunning Landscape and Fantasy Gardens, vibrant and creative displays at the Floral Windows of the World, the perennial favourite – the Orchid Extravaganza – offering educational and entertainment activities and the Marketplace where a wide array of plants and products will be sold.

Will the Miniature Gardens make a return this Festival? If not, why?

No, the Miniature Gardens will not be returning this year as the designers are not available during the Festival period. However, this year sees the introduction of a new features and competitive categories – including a Terrarium exhibition and Landscape Design Challenge which will see students putting together a garden from scratch within a limited timeframe.

What can we see at this year’s show?

Visitors can expect to see:

  • 15 Fantasy and Landscape Show Gardens featuring approximately 80 sqm creations by top award-winning gardening luminaries from around the world (in air-conditioned tentages at the outdoor Gardens);
  • 14 Floral Windows to the World featuring colourful and vibrant cut-flower displays and floral masterpieces with stunning set design and lighting by floral designers from around the world (in air-conditioned tentages at the outdoor Gardens);
  • 6 Table-top Floral Displays featuring table-top floral displays created with fresh flowers, cutlery and decorative accessories (in air-conditioned tentages at the outdoor Gardens);
  • 5 Balcony Gardens featuring colourful and inspirational displays for small-home and apartment owners.
  • Orchid Extravaganza* at Flower Dome showcasing the rich heritage of orchids [*runs from 22 Jul to 28 Aug]
  • Singapore Orchid Show at Flower Dome, which will feature more than 400 of the region’s best orchid plants and compete for over 40 heritage trophies.

Others include the Terrarium Exhibition and the MarketPlace (air-conditioned) featuring over 100 booths offering food & beverages and a wide array of plants, gardening and landscape products and services, and arts and crafts for sale.

Ticketing

Why do I have to pay more for a Standard Double Conservatory tickets (at $33 for adults and seniors, and $20 for child) during this period even though I do not wish to visit the SGF, while there is no price increase for the Local Double Conservatory tickets?

The price of $33 for the Standard Double Conservatory tickets is a special arrangement made during this 9-day period for tourists to visit the award-winning Singapore Garden Festival,   which is held once every two years. The small increase of $5 on top of the standard rate of $28 is a very attractive deal considering that visitors will have the opportunity to catch the Festival highlights, such as the landscape show gardens and cut-flower displays created by international gardening celebrities. For those with less time to spare, we are also offering a shorter tour option combining SGF and the Flower Dome at a lower price of $23 during this period only.

Both Gardens by the Bay and the Singapore Garden Festival share the national objective of promoting local community engagement through horticultural programming and activities. We remain committed to keeping the ticket price of the Festival and the conservatories affordable to Singaporeans and Singapore residents.

Where can I buy SGF tickets? Can SGF tickets be purchased in advance?

Tickets can be purchased in advance from 15 Apr 2016 at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, or from our Ticketing Office at the Canopy in Gardens by the Bay. Our Ticketing Office is open from 9am to 8pm daily, and from 9am to 9pm, 23 – 31 Jul 2016. Please mention to our Ticketing staff that you would like to buy tickets to go to the SGF at the point of purchase. Alternatively, tickets can also be purchased in advance from our website. Do select a day between 23 – 31 Jul 2016 as your preferred visit date.

During the Festival, tickets are available online at our website and at the ticketing kiosks at Gardens by the Bay located at Bayfront Plaza and the Canopy Ticketing Hub.

Can I access the cooled conservatories with the SGF ticket purchased?

SGF tickets holders will be able to access The Meadow and one of the conservatories. However, do note that the special orchid display that is a part of the SGF is found in the Flower Dome. The Cloud Forest does not have any SGF-related display. If you would like to visit both conservatories, kindly visit our Ticketing Counter at the Canopy to purchase the top-up. GB 2-conservatory ticket holders will be allowed entry to SGF as well.

What is the validity dates for SGF tickets?

SGF tickets are valid from 23 Jul to 31 Jul 2016.

I want to purchase SGF tickets in bulk. How can I go about doing this?

Please write to our Sales team at sales.enquiries@gardensbythebay.com.sg, and they will assist you further.

Is entry to the SGF free for FOG members? Are there any discounts for FOG members?

FOG members can enjoy access to the Orchid Extravaganza display at the Flower Dome. For entry to the other ticketed SGF venues, FOG members will need to purchase a SGF ticket. However, FOG members are entitled to a 20% discount on up to 5 SGF tickets purchased on-site, per card per transaction.

Why do FOG members need to pay?

The SGF is a special event, and is therefore not included in the FOG membership package. We seek the kind understanding of our FOG members on this matter.

Is re-entry to the SGF possible?

Multiple entries to the Flower Dome and The Meadow within the same day is possible. Simply get a re-entry stamp at the Flower Dome and Meadow exits, which will allow you to re-enter within the same day. As the re-entry stamp must be intact and readable for you to revisit the SGF venue, you may wish to get the stamp on your arm instead of your hand so that it won't get washed off accidentally.

Will I have to finish seeing all the SGF exhibits in one day?

You can view the outdoor SGF venues and the exhibits in the Flower Dome on separate days anytime between 23 – 31 Jul. However, if you are holding a weekday ticket, kindly note that the visits can only be done on weekdays only. Kindly note that for holders of the 2-conservatory tickets, visits to the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest must be completed on the same day.

Can I still use my online tickets to visit the conservatories after 31 Jul?

Only SGF tickets (as stated on the back of the ticket) are available if the date of visit selected at the point of purchase is between 23 – 31 Jul. The tickets are valid only for this period and must be utilised by 31 Jul 2016.

What is the difference between weekday and weekend tickets?

Weekday tickets can be used on any weekday, and weekend tickets can be used on any day.

Where should I bring my plant from the SGF Share-a-plant campaign to redeem my 20% ticket discount? What happens to my plant afterwards? Can I keep it?

Please present the plant tag at the ticketing kiosks at the Gardens to enjoy the 20% discount. Kindly note that the discount is only applicable for local resident tickets.

I accidentally lost my ticket when I visited the SGF a few days ago, but have yet to view to exhibits in the Flower Dome. Can you help?

We regret that there will be no replacement of lost tickets. As such, you will have to purchase another conservatory ticket to enter the Flower Dome.

I have a GB ticket (either local single-dome or a standard double-dome ticket) that is valid until 31 Jul, but it is not an SGF ticket. I would like to go for the SGF, can you help?

We regret that it is not possible to grant admission to the SGF with a normal GB conservatory ticket, even if it is valid during the period of 23 – 31 Jul 2016. Kindly visit our Ticketing Counter at the Canopy to enquire about the top-up options available for visiting the SGF at the Meadow.

I’m a staff of one of the stall vendors. Are there any discounts for me when I purchase SGF tickets?

We regret that discounts are not available for staff of stall vendors at the MarketPlace.

Q26. Are the SGF venues sheltered? What will happen in the case of bad weather e.g. thunderstorm and haze? Will my tickets be refunded?

In the event of the haze returning, we will adhere to NEA’s advice based on the PSI readings, e.g. encouraging visitors to stay in the indoor components of the Festival. There will also be emergency medical stations onsite.

We regret that here will be no refunds for SGF tickets, as per the terms and conditions stated on our materials.

How long will it take for me to view all the SGF exhibits?

We would recommend setting aside 1 hour to explore the Flower Dome, and at least 2 hours for the outdoor venues.

I’m coming to the SGF with my elderly parents and children. Are there any resting areas available at or near the SGF venues? Are there any exhibits which may be of special interest to young children?

There are benches and seating areas around the Flower Dome. Visitors can also take a rest in any of the F&B outlets at the MarketPlace.

Are food and drinks allowed in the SGF venues?

Food and drinks are allowed in the SGF venues at Bayfront Plaza and the Meadow, not in the Flower Dome.

Most of the plants and structures will be given back to the designers and the implementing partners. Some plants would be returned to nurseries or owners and display structures would be recycled where possible and appropriate. We may also keep some of the plants and structures at our parks and gardens, adding on to existing plantings and collections.

Hence, we regret that we are unable to accede to public requests for the plants at the end of the Festival.
