Enjoy a cool leisure stroll through the Flower Dome and immerse in a world of perpetual spring. The Flower Dome replicates the cool-dry climate of Mediterranean regions like South Africa, California and parts of Spain and Italy. Here, you'll discover not only the amazing beauty of these plants and flowers, but how they have also adapted to the cool-dry environments.
Join us on a safari tour across the colourful landscape of South Africa. Home to a rich and unique world of plant life, South Africa is more than just deserts and savannahs. A welcoming waterfall beckons in the centre of the floral display, where a burst of colour offers a glimpse of the wildflower fields that blossom in Namaqualand each spring. Discover the striking blooms of African fynbos (heathland), from the exquisite King Protea - the national flower of South Africa - to the elegant Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia reginae). Be intrigued by the unusual-looking Aloe Trees that take root in semi-desert karoos, as you delight in the charming rock art and animal sculptures that peek out among the flora.
Marvel at the ancient Olive Trees, estimated to be over a thousand years old. Cultivated for over 10 thousand years in the Mediterranean, Olive Trees provide fruit, oil and leaves that are used for various purposes.
Designed with glass that sits on a steel grid which acts like an eggshell, the two Cooled Conservatories at Gardens by the Bay are the world’s largest columnless greenhouses.
With 3,332 panels of 42 varying shapes and sizes of spectrally selective glass, the Flower Dome is like a giant puzzle!
