FAQ - River Hongbao 2023 


Yes, a 3-minute long spectacular fireworks display will be launched on 20 January to mark the launch of River Hongbao 2023.

Do note that Supertree Grove will be the fireworks launch site and will be closed to the public from 5.30pm on 20 January. Possible vantage points to view the fireworks display are at the following areas of Gardens by the Bay:

  • Bayfront Plaza
  • Golden Garden
  • Silver Garden
  • The Meadow

Yes, River Hongbao is open from 6.30pm – 10.30pm on 20 January. Although the Supertree Grove will be closed from 5.30pm on 20 January and will only be accessible to the public after 8.30pm, the lantern displays, trade stalls, stage performances and Jurassic Nest located at the South Colonnade and Meadow will still be accessible. Do note that the Food Street & Amusement Park located within Supertree Grove will only start operations after 8.30pm, when the fireworks display has ended.

There will be no Garden Rhapsody light and sound show at 7.45pm. Garden Rhapsody will resume at 8.45pm with a special Chinese New Year edition, “Spring Blossoms”.

Come and join Fu-er and Shou-er as we usher in the Year of the Rabbit 兔gether. Be dazzled by the lantern displays, spectacular stage performances and a host of other festivities at River Hongbao 2023. The event is FREE and no tickets are required for admission.

  • Due to prevailing government capacity controls and to better facilitate crowd control, the event grounds at the Supertree Grove and The Meadow will be gated.

  • Admission is free and timeslot bookings are not required for entry this year. However, do note that bag checks will be carried out at River Hongbao entrance checkpoints.

  • Bicycles, skate scooters and other PMDs
  • Pets except guide dogs
  • Remote controlled devices including drones
  • Sharp objects such as pocket knife and scissors
  • Pyrotechnic devices such as flares or fireworks
  • All items listed under SPF prohibited items

  • River Hongbao is a rain or shine event. As this is an outdoor event with limited shelter available, visitors are encouraged to bring umbrellas and ponchos in case it rains.

  • Outdoor activities may be postponed and/or cancelled due to weather conditions.

Visitor Information & Accessibility

During the festive period, our parking spaces are limited at the Gardens and visitors are advised to take public transport. Limited parkings are available at Main Entrance, The Meadow, Satay by the Bay, and Bayfront Plaza.

You may approach any staff within the River Hongbao event grounds for assistance.

There are toilets, information and first-aid counters available within the River Hongbao event grounds.

  • The Food Street returns to River Hongbao this year, serving snacks and drinks throughout the evening.
  • Gardens by the Bay’s latest dining addition - Jurassic Nest is also located within the River Hongbao grounds. Enjoy Michelin-rated cuisines in the company of larger-than-life dinosaurs! Note that as Jurassic Nest is located within River Hongbao event grounds, all visitors will be required to undergo bag checks.
  • Various dining options are also available near and within Gardens by the Bay. Visitors are advised to make plans ahead in anticipation for large crowds and long queues.

As we are expecting a high volume of visitors as well as many exciting elements at the event, pets are not allowed at River Hongbao for safety reasons.

No bicycles, scooters, skateboards and personal mobility devices (PMDs) are allowed into the event grounds.

  • Yes, the River Hongbao grounds are largely barrier-free and wheelchair accessible.

  • Visitors on wheelchairs or with strollers should use Exits 1A, 2 and 3, where there are lifts or ramps.

Volunteers and auxiliary police officers are deployed throughout the event grounds to manage the crowd. Bag checks will also be conducted at all three entry points.

Yes, however do note that as the event ground will be undergoing preparation for admission, entry to the 2 attractions will be closed an hour before and all visitors to the above attractions will have to undergo bag check during the operational hours of River Hongbao.

For visitors to the Gardens who wish to view Garden Rhapsody from other vantage points, please consider watching from World of Plants albeit restricted views.

Please note the shows will be played on:

  • 20 Jan: 8.45pm only

  • 21 - 27 Jan: 7.45pm and 8.45pm

  • 28 Jan: 7.45pm only

You may walk past Shake Shack & Floral Clock towards Supertree Grove. The nearest entrance is Checkpoint 1.

You may get onto Dragonfly Bridge along Scented Walk and walk through Heritage Gardens to arrive at the Conservatories.

Visitors coming from Meadows or Bayfront Plaza carpark, can make your way through:

  • Supertree Grove* where River Hongbao is currently located OR

  • via Scented Walk for the conservatories.


*Note: Visitors walking through Supertree Grove to access other parts of the Gardens will be required to undergo bag checks.
